Imtra Marine Lighting offers a wide selection of lighting fixtures for almost every application. With a large selection of fixtures comes an equally large selection of bulbs. Some fixtures have been designed around a certain bulb technology while other fixtures may be offered with a choice of bulbs depending on the application. We realize that it can be difficult to choose the right bulb for a particular fixture or application. The following chart is a guide to help you through this process.

LED Technology
Although LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) have been around for decades, they only recently have been considered for general lighting purposes. Advances in LED technology have resulted in higher lumen output than ever thought possible. The advantages of LEDs are many; extremely long life (50,000 hrs+), shock & vibration proof, almost no radiant heat, miserly energy consumption, and no maintenance. These characteristics make them the light source of choice for applications such as traffic signals, vehicle tail lights, and vessel navigation lights.  Today, with current-regulated circuit boards, dimming ability, special optics, and true warm-white LEDs, we are seeing the emergence of this technology in all types of interior and exterior lighting used for homes, store show rooms, architectural design, boats, RVs, etc.  It is always best to select a fixture that is purpose-built around LED technology in order to maximize all the benefits that LEDs offer.

LED Replacement Bulbs

In addition to fixtures that are designed to maximize LED technology, Imtra also offers a number of LED replacement bulbs which provide a cost-effective way to convert your traditional fixtures to this new technology. We now offer an entire range of quality LED replacement bulbs that fit an array of different sockets including screw-base, bi-pin, or bayonet base.

G4
Replaces G4 Halogen or Xenon bi-pin lamp. Side-mount model fits into a horizontal socket and is ideal for low profile down spots or small shallow ceiling fixtures. The bottom mount version fits vertically and is ideal for deeper spots and many types of bulkhead reading & chart lights. 5mm & powerLED versions available in cool white, warm white, red, & blue. 90 dg beam angle.

MR11
A direct replacement for the MR11 reflector bulb and fits both GU4 and G4 sockets. It has extended base which allows it to fit into many down spots that also have integral reflectors (no need to remove reflector). 5mm & powerLED versions available in cool white, warm white, red, & blue. 90 dg beam angle.

B15d
A direct replacement for the #1142 double-contact bayonet-based bulb. One model features all forward-facing (90 dg) LEDs and is ideal for use in traditional bulkhead reading and chart lights with vertical-mounted sockets. Another model features LEDs facing all directions and can be used when socket is side-mounted or for appliqués (shade lamps). 5mm & powerLED versions available in cool white, warm white, red, & blue.

E26
Features 90 x (90dg) 5mm LEDs and replaces the traditional house-hold medium screw-base bulb. Typical use would be for table or wall-mounted appliqués (shade lamps).  Available in warm white.

Tungsten Halogen
Halogens are more efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs and last longer too. They come in a variety of sizes, but are tiny compared to bulky incandescent bulbs. It is their high output relative to size that has made them popular for RV & Marine use where quite often only very low profile fixtures may be accommodated. The disadvantage has been their extremely high heat which can cause concern when fixtures are mounted in extremely tight & confined spaces. Their low cost and excellent color rendering characteristics has kept halogens popular, especially for general cabin lighting.

G4 Halogen
A low-cost bulb that works with any fixture requiring a G4 bulb.  It is available in 12V, 14V, 24V, 28V or 32VDC versions with standard outputs from 5-20 watts.

G4 Xenon
Lasts up to five times longer than standard G4 bulb, with only slight reduction in light output.  Xenon bulbs tend to be more resistant to voltage fluctuations and offer more flexible handling characteristics.

GU10/GX10
Line voltage MR16 aluminum reflector bulbs are used in many of today's line voltage spots.  They are designed to reflect heat out through the front of the fixture making them a good choice for fixtures installed in tight spaces. Their positive-lock bi-pins keep them securely in place unlike traditional straight pin reflector bulbs.

R7s
High-intensity linear halogen bulb.  Typically used for flood light applications.  120/220VAC available.

Fluorescents
Like LEDs, fluorescent technology has been around for years. However, advances in technology have resulted in smaller tube diameters, instant starting, full range of color choices, and compact replacement bulbs that can be used in almost any medium screw base fixture. The advantages are high efficiency, cool running, good lumen maintenance, and long life. The disadvantages would be the requirement of a starter/ballast and limitations of lighting control (dimming ability). A reason to use fluorescent over LEDs would be the light output, which can approach 100 lumens per watt (compared to 45 lumens/watt for the latest generation high-flux LEDs).

PL 2-Pin
Compact and highly efficient.  Available in 7W, 9W, 13W, & 15W. These bulbs are used with our small (oval) Utility Lights and Small (ERL) Engine Room Lights. Fits G23 or G24 socket.

PL 4-Pin
Available in 7W, 18W, 24W, 36W, and 48W.  Different color outputs (cool white/41K, warm white/27K).  Used in Resolux 750 Series and Compact Line series of fixtures. Fits 2G11 socket.

T5/T8
Straight tube lamp in sub-miniature (T5) or standard (T8) diameters from 4W-35W.  Color levels from 27K-33K. Used in most Resolux fixtures and the IML 2’ and 4’ (ERL) Engine Room Lights.

Incandescents
Incandescents have good color rendering, are very inexpensive, come in a huge selection of sizes and shapes, and are readily available. However they are the least efficient and are adversely affected by voltage fluctuations.

B15d-S8 Bayonet
Double contact bayonet bulb, popular in reading lights, wall lights and dome fixtures.  Available in different wattages and voltages for both AC and DC applications.  ANSI #1142.

E14 Tubular or E14 Spherical
"Candelabra" screw-based bulb available for DC or AC systems in tubular or round shape.  Spherical type typically used in wall-shade lamps.  The long and narrow spherical style is typically used in low profile ceiling fixtures.

E26/E27
Medium screw-based bulb is available in AC or DC versions.  These are your typical household bulbs used in the larger wall-shade lamps and some utility lights.

W2 Wedge
Tiny "wedge" bulbs used in small courtesy lights.  12/24 VDC available.

SV7 Festoon
Low voltage/low wattage bulbs used in small and medium sized courtesy lights.  12/24 VDC available.

Throughout our lighting section you will find detailed information relating to the fixtures you are interested in.  The socket type and maxium wattage is listed, which will help you select a bulb to fit your needs.  If you have any questions or would like additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at (508) 995-7000 or e-mail us.
