Community Outreach at Imtra

At Imtra, we believe that being part of a community means actively contributing to its well-being. In 2014, we established our Outreach Committee to formalize our commitment to supporting charitable organizations, with a focus on Southeastern Massachusetts, where we are headquartered.

Whether through financial donations or hands-on volunteerism, we’re proud to support organizations that make a real difference. Below are a few of the groups and initiatives we’re involved with—and ways our employee-owners are giving back.

Organizations Imtra Supports

Sharing the Harvest Community Farm

Part of the Southcoast YMCA family, Sharing the Harvest was founded in 2006 to combat food insecurity and promote volunteerism. With a small staff and a big mission, the farm relies on volunteers to plant, harvest, and maintain the fields and equipment. All food grown is donated to local food pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens through the United Way of New Bedford’s Hunger Commission.

Imtra supports the farm through an annual donation and group volunteer outings—often with 30+ employee-owners in the fields.

Community Boating Center of New Bedford

Founded in 1998, the Community Boating Center (CBC) helps youth ages 5–24 build confidence, teamwork, and leadership through sailing and mentorship programs. Many participants receive grants to cover program costs, and for many, it’s their first experience on the water.

Today, CBC operates over 100 boats and reaches more than 3,000 kids annually. Alumni often return as mentors and counselors—testament to the program’s lasting impact.

Buzzards Bay Coalition

We are boaters and proud of the beautiful area where we live, so it’s only natural we’d support an organization dedicated to the restoration, protection and sustainable use and enjoyment of Buzzards Bay and its watershed.

The coalition was founded in 1987 as a direct response to the environmental issues that residents were seeing in the bay. Bacterial contamination was closing Shellfish beds and nitrogen pollution was threatening the health of the bay and fish and wildlife populations that rely on it.

Through annual events like Buzzards Bay Swim and Watershed Ride, they raise both awareness and money. Their website provides a history of the coalition and is a great source for learning more about the activities available throughout Buzzards Bay.

Volunteerism

The financial support we provide local organizations is important, but we love seeing our employee-owners engaging with these organizations as well.

Expanding on our annual group outing to Sharing the Harvest Community Farm, we are now giving employees the opportunity to volunteer on their own during business hours.

We try to focus on organizations that have a personal connection to our employee-owners or to our industry, but will evaluate any worthy cause.
